The paper "A latent image - The archival history of the short film Befreit by ELA EIS aka Mirakel Wip by Muscha and Trini Trimpop" is the result of research by our research associate Darija Šimunović in the archives of the IMAI, the Filmmuseum Düsseldorf and the Heinrich Heine Institute, estate of Richard Gleim. She went in search of the long-lost Super 8 film Befreit [Liberated] (1979) by Düsseldorf artist ELA EIS, which was also mistakenly attributed to the late artist Muscha and his business partner Trini Trimpop at the IMAI. The archival history of the short film Liberated by ELA EIS reads like a detective story that is carried by surprising twists and turns, contradictory statements, forgotten facts and improbable evidence.
