From its beginnings in the early 1980s, the media art agency 235 Media had a decisive influence on the national and international development and dissemination of the newly emerging artistic category of video and media art. The latter arose outside the established art world and on the basis of media utopias as well as in close connection with the musical culture of the 1970s and 1980s. Right from the start, it generated numerous innovations whose powerful influence continues to be felt today, both on artistic production and on forms of presentation, access, and distribution. These are comprehensively explored for the first time in the publication VIDEO VISIONEN (VIDEO VISIONS), of 2020. This lecture provides a window into the research findings and publication.
