salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears

As part of the DINAMO program Embodiment, IMAI shows the video work salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears (2024) by Nastja Säde Rönkkö at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The Finnish artist is a new addition to our distribution program for video art and experimental film. Nastja Säde Rönkkö's projects investigate the relationship between the digital era, power, humanity, and the future of our planet. The artist is particularly fascinated with how concepts such as love, slowness or affection can be silent yet radical ways to be and act in the world. Her practice dreams about the future and explores presence through politics and poetics of emotion.

salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears takes its starting point from a commonly held - yet incorrect - belief that blood contains the same amount of salt as sea water. Three narrators - a teardrop, a drop of Golden blood and a droplet of sweat - tell their own stories of love and loss. The video is driven by a poetic text: an intimate verse with an ambiguity that delivers a metanarrative for lost and found identity, a scarred planet, and our ever-changing world.

There will be two screenings at the Rotterdam cinema KINO 4: on January 31, 2025, at 3:00 pm and on February 2, 2025 at 5:30 pm.
