Thomas Hawranke (b. 1977, lives and works in Cologne) is an artist and researcher. After receiving his diploma in audiovisual media from the Kunsthochschule für Medien in Cologne, he earned a doctorate at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar with his dissertation “Modding: Künstlerische Forschung in Computerspielen.” He is a member of the artists’ group susigames and cofounder of the Paidia Institute, an interdisciplinary research group operating at the margins of art, technology, and science. With susigames he was, among other things, an artist in residence at the ZKM Karlsruhe and scholarship recipient with a focus on artistic research in computer games.
