Approximation Festival

Antonia Alessia Virginia Beekow and Venus Ex Machina

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Approximation Festival, IMAI and Approximation have commissioned Düsseldorf-based Antonia Alessia Virginia Beeskow and London-based Venus Ex Machina with the development of new works in response to When the World Went Out of Tune with Itself. Both artists will delve into the archival traces and conceptual threads of the program, engaging with its core questions of sampling, borrowing, and feminist legacies in sound. Following their concerts, Amsterdam-based Madelon Hooykaas will join the two artists in conversation to reflect on the possibilities and tensions of collaboration across generations—between artists of the 1970s and today, between sonic experimentation and moving image, between conceptual ideals and the realities of production.
