Examples of Typographic Design in the Moving Image

Not My Type tells the story of typography, printing technology, and the experiences of a mosquito with the most famous Shakespeare quotation. In Das Leben ist hart, the letters of the films titles impatiently wait in line in front of an outhouse. In the video art class AIUEONN, Takahiko Iimura pronounces Japanese and Latin vowels, while is face is computer animated. The symbols of Japanese hiragana and the Roman alphabet appear. The typographic music video Kleiner Reiter reite animates alphabet soup to the tune of a Zarah Leander song. Heimkino by the Berlin-based duo of artists Dellbrügge & de Moll is audible and visible language based on four American science fiction thrillers. In Der Beste Weg, Apple’s text-to-speech feature reads from the daily lives of the blind, and we see only writing.
